Admission Requirements


Eligibility

To be eligible for the SFS program, a candidate must:

  • be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the US
  • be able to pass background clearance requirements for federal employees
  • have no record of academic misconduct.

Undergraduate Students

EECS BS students receive SFS support for up to 2 years. The application process typically starts in the sophomore year. Undergraduate SFS candidates must meet the following admission criteria:

  • The candidate must be an EECS BS student in good academic standing at KU (including BSCS,BSCoE)
  • The candidate must be within three years of graduation at the time of application
  • The candidate must have completed Upper Level Eligibility (ULE), or in the last semester of completing ULE
  • The candidate must have an overall GPA of 3.2+

MS Students

EECS MS students receive SFS support for 2 years. Please apply to SFS once you are accepted to the EECS graduate program. MS SFS candidates must meet the following admission criteria:

  • The candidate must be admitted to the EECS MS program at KU
  • The candidate must have an overall GPA of 3.2+ and an Engineering GPA of 3.5+
  • The candidate must take either the Security and Assurance or Information Security and Management focus areas, or another focus area with a special emphasis on security (e.g., security research in the Network Systems focus area)

Ph.D. Students

Ph.D. students receive SFS support for 3 years. Ph.D. SFS candidates must meet the following admission criteria:

  • The candidate must be admitted to the EECS Ph.D. program at KU
  • The candidate must have passed the Ph.D. qualifying exam
  • The candidate must have received satisfactory in all Ph.D. Activity Reports,and have a graduate GPA of 3.5+
